Funko Pop collection displayed in original boxes

How to Store and Display Your Funko Pop Collection (In Box or Out of Box)

In box or out of box? It's the oldest debate in the hobby — and whichever side you're on, how you store and display your Funko Pops decides how they look (and what they're worth) in ten years. Here's our guide as collectors ourselves.

In box (IB): protect the value

If resale value matters to you, the box is the product. To keep it mint:

  • Pop protectors: Crystal-clear plastic protectors are the single best investment — they prevent shelf wear, dents and dust.
  • Avoid direct sunlight: UV fades both the box print and the vinyl. Keep displays away from windows or use UV-filtering acrylic.
  • Stable temperature and humidity: Attics and basements are risky. Vinyl warps in heat; cardboard swells in humidity.
  • Stack smart: Never stack heavy boxes on top of standard 4-inch boxes — crushed window corners are the most common damage we see.

Out of box (OOB): display freedom

Collecting for the joy of display? Then free your Pops — just keep the box flat-packed if you might ever sell. OOB tips:

  • Dust regularly with a soft brush or air blower — vinyl attracts dust.
  • Use risers or acrylic stairs so back rows stay visible.
  • Glow-in-the-dark and blacklight Pops deserve a UV lamp moment — that's half the fun.

A note on damaged boxes

A damaged box doesn't ruin the figure — it just changes the market. That's why we sell damaged-box copies at reduced prices, clearly marked, for OOB collectors. Same Pop, better deal.
